Life as a Pediatric Registered Dental Hygienist!

Hi, I am Tonya (LT Butler).

I’m a Registered Dental Hygienist, award winning children’s book author, and Tooth Fairy. My daughter (Lauren Butler) and I published our children’s dental hygiene educational book, Fuzzy Tooth Critters, this year…EXCITING!!!!

I started a FB poll 1 week ago asking parents and caregivers if they ever put there child(ren) to bed with milk, juice, 50/50( soda & water), etc. I received several feedback… Thank you all!  Some responses stated the child never goes to bed with milk or juice.  Several responses stated parents put their child to bed with a bottle (milk).  I witness this dental issues everyday as a dental profession.  I recently had a patient who was in the 1st grade and never been for a dental cleaning. YES! The child had several cavities. Another scenario, the child will come to the dentist regularly but still have cavities and bleeding gums because of lack of interest in dental care at home.  Why is this?🤷🏽‍♀️

And, there are patients who walk out excited…CAVITY FREE! However, I want them all to be cavity free or at least practice proactive daily brushing and flossing.

I have a heart for this topic because it’s my profession. I love educating others, I love caring for people, and I know poor oral hygiene can be detrimental to a child and adults.  Adults, some of you have experienced pain with your teeth due to decay or undergoing untreated diagnosis…think how the pain and discomfort to a child may feel.  From what I have experienced with my dental matters, I know the babies do not enjoy being in pain. I will definitely share my recent dental experiences later…NOT FUN AT ALL! $$$😫

With that being said, I want to help. My goals are to utilize my passion for children by advocating the importance for dental hygiene care and nutrition. I will do this by creating fun and creative children’s books to inspire them to read and to learn about our personal health. I will organize children meetup events and spark the interest of goal making.  I will also expand my dental hygiene visitation at elementary schools, after-school programs, daycares, churches, etc…anywhere I can connect with students and become a positive impact on them.

To begin my journey, I’ve started my own brand, LT Butler Co. as a foundation for future endeavors.  I’m currently brainstorming ideas for my nonprofit organization—giving back and providing assistance to children and low income communities.  I’m here to connect with you all, expand my business, and enjoy the mission of living out my dreams as a healthcare provider, author, and C.E.O.   I’m looking forward to this experience and journey God placed on my heart to fulfill.   Parents, I hope you all will allow your children to explore this journey with me.

Until next time….remember…to 𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐡 your teeth 2x a day, 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐬, and always keep a 𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞 on your face. 🧚🏽‍♀️🦷🧚🏽‍♀️
